Eye makeup is the one everyone puts the most effort in, isn’t it?
It can make a huge difference in your facial expression, so if you don’t get it done right, you will end up feeling that it is all messed up….
Depending on a character, eye shape may differ like slant eyes or drooping eyes, and large or small.
It is not too much to say that cosplay makeup will not be complete without eye makeup techniques.
In this article, we have focused only on the eye part in cosplay makeup.
Let’s get closer to the style that a character has with eye makeup.
Make Bigger Eyes
This time, we are going to use Skinny Rich Shadow SR03 Royal Brown from excel to go into details.
① is the base color, ② is the light brown, and ③ are the dark brown.
③indicates 2 colors.
I usually use ③ on the right. Dark brown on the right is recommended for a character who has a face with clear cut features or a male character. For a gentle and soft character, mix both ③ brown colors.
Let’s get started with creating big eyes.
■2:Apply ①the base color to your eyelid. (Figure A)
■3:Apply ②the light brown eyeshadow to your eye crease. (Figure B)
■4:Apply ③the dark brown eyeshadow to where you will draw an eyeliner. (Figure C)
■5:Also apply ③the dark brown eyeshadow to right above your iris. (Figure C)
■6:Highlight your lower eyelid from the inner corner of your eye to the iris. (Figure D)
■7:Add ③the dark brown eyeshadow to the lower eyelid of the outer corner of the eye. (Figure E)
■8:Draw a line on eye crease with ③the dark brown eyeshadow. (Figure F)
※If needed, you can use a mascara and an eyelash curler at this point!
■9:Apply volume false eyelashes to the irises on the upper eyelids.
■10:Apply volume false eyeahses to the lower part of your eyes as well.
※If you want to make your eyes bigger, apply false eyelashes a little bit far from the edge of your natural lash line. Use a white pen to fill the gap between eyes.
■11:Apply eyeliner from the inner corner to the outer corner of your upper eyelid only.
※Draw thicker at the outer corner of your eyes. Look at a mirror and adjust the thickness of the line little by little.
If it get bigger but too gaudy,
・choose false eyelashes that are long in the middle, and adjust the length and volume by yourself.
・When you blend both ③the dark brown eyeshadows, apply the one on the left more to make it brighter.
・When applying false eyelashes to the lower eyelid, place them a little far from your natural lash line.
Above these are something you can try adjusting!
Let’s get drooping eyes!
Let's get drooping eyes to get a cute impression!
Use your finger to check where to apply the tape.
■2:Apply ①the base color in a circle to all over your eyelid up to the bottom of your eyebrow. (Figure A)
■3:Apply ③the light brown eyeshadow in a circle to your eyelid. (Figure B)
■4:Draw a long thin line with an eyeliner from the inner corner of your eyelid to the outer corner downwards.
■5:Apply false eyelashes and adjust them outward and downwards from the outer cornerof your eye.
■6:For the bottom, apply them from the inner corner, while adjusting them a little bit farther below your natural lash line.
Focus on creating drooping eyes that give a soft look and apply eyeshadow in a circle.
You can have drooping eyes with eyeliner and false eyelashes, so it will be better for you to keep on practicing.
Let’s get slant eyes!
Let’s create slant eyes that you can adopt for cosplaying make characters.
■2:Apply ②the light brown eyeshadow to above the iris. (Figure A)
■3:Apply ③the dar brown eyeshadow to the outer corner of your eye. (Figure B)
■4:Apply highlighter above and below the inner corner of your eye. (Figure C)
※Apply it like >< ←along the edges of the inner corners of your eyes. Make sure it is not too thin, not too thick.
■5:When applying eyeliner, draw a line gradually thicker from the center to the outer corner of your eye. Apply a long line to the end of your eye higher than your natural eye line.
■6:Also, draw a line from the outer ⅓ of your eye on the bottom and connect it to the upper eye line.
■7:Apply false eyelashes that are long at the end, on the outer eye line you drew.
※Since you applied the line to the end of your eye higher than your natural eye line in step 5, you are going to apply false eyelashes diagonally.
■8:Also for the bottom, apply false eyelashes that are long at the end, to the outer eye line you drew.
Since slant eyes can give a cool impression, apply eyeshadow lightly.
Apply highlighter to the inner corner of your eye as it can create a sharp face.
Let’s get small eyes!
Like some villains, there are characters who have a feature of small eyes.
Let’s create beautiful small almond eyes.
■2:Apply ①the base color to the outer corner of your eye. (Figure A)
■3:Apply a thin line with ③ the dark brown eyeshadow to the outer corner of your eye. (Figure B)
■4:Apply ① the base color from the inner to the outer corner of your bottom eyelid. (Figure C)
■5:To the outer corner of your bottom eyelid, apply a thin line with ③the dark brown eyeshadow. (Figure D)
■6:Apply eyeliner from the inner corner of your eye, drawing gradually thicker from the iris, and slightly raise the line at the end.
■7:Draw a thin line for the bottom.
■8:Apply short false eyelashes only to the outer corner of your eye.
If you want to make a stronger impression, apply a longer line with ③the dark brown eyeshadow in step 3, and connect the upper and lower eye lines.
Let’s create eyes that are close together!
Sometimes, you may have a problem that the position of your own eyes don’t work well with a character you want to cosplay.
But, you can even change the position of your eyes with makeup, so please learn the tips below!
■2:Apply highlighter to the inner corner of your lower eyelid. (Figure B)
■3:Apply ③ the dark brown eyeshadow to the outer corner of your lower eyelid. (Figure C)
■4:Apply eyeliner, drawing thicker at the inner corner and thinner toward the outer corner of your eye.
※If you also draw a line in the inner corner, both eyes get even closer.
■5:For the bottom, apply eyeliner to the inner ⅓ of your inside eyelid.
■6:Choose false eyelashes that are longer at the outer corner and apply it in a way that eyelashes at the inner corner of the eye are longer.
※There are no false eyelashes sold that are longer at the inner corner, but to make up for that, you can purchase falsies that are longer at the outer corner and apply it to your eyes the other way around.
You can change the gap between eyes depending on how dark or light you apply ③the dark brown eyeshadow to the inner corner of your eye in Step 1.
Also, whether you add a line or not to the inner corner of your eye, there is a huge difference in the impression. So, check a mirror to make sure that both eyes are not too close and draw a line little by little.
Let’s get wide-set eyes!
Now, let’s widen the gap between the eyes!
If you try both makeup methods, eyes that are close together explained above and wide-set eyes, you will be surprised to see a difference in facial impressions.
■2:Apply ① the base color along the inner corner of the eye on the upper and lower eyelid. (Figure A)
■3:Apply ② the light brown eyeshadow from the iris to the outer corner of the top eyelid and the outer corner of the bottom eyelid.
■4:Draw a line with eyeliner from the iris to the outer corner of the top eyelid.
■5:For the bottom eyelid, draw a thin line only at the end of the eye.
Now, I believe that the gap between your two eyes has widened.
If you want to make the gap even wider,
・Draw a line on the top eyelid longer.
・Change ②the light brown eyeshadow in Step 3 to ③the dark brown eyeshadow.
・Apply false eyelashes to the bottom eyelid.
・Apply false eyelashes a little bit far from the eye on the bottom eyelid, and fill the gap with a white pen.
However, if you do all of the above methods, many people usually end up with a look that is different from what they wanted.
When you keep looking at your face up close in a mirror, you will not be able to see the entire look. So, check yourself in a mirror that can show your whole body and keep checking the look little by little.
Overall
Making eyes bigger, smaller, droopy, and slanted and Changing the gap between eyes…. Cosplaying is a lot of work….
If you try them all, you can see the differences in impressions that each of them gives.
We actually don’t always know what our facial features are, so it is a good idea to try out all of them and keep the photos of them for future reference.
Even if you don’t think some makeup types are not necessary, when you look at yourself objectively in a picture, you will learn what types of makeup would work well for a character.
If you use only one eyeshadow product like we did in this article, you will be able to see the differences easier!!
